Wakefield Council Leader pays tribute to former councillor Monica Graham

 “It was a great honour and pleasure to have personally known Monica. My love and sympathies go out to all of her family and friends. 

“Monica was one of the most popular elected members the Council chamber has ever seen. She worked so hard for the people of Wakefield South. And this unwavering commitment to her community, alongside her sense of humour, warmth and natural charm, meant that she was respected by all political parties.

“She always said that her role as a councillor was to help people. And that’s exactly what she did. Even when she stood down she continued to work tirelessly in the community.

“Monica led the charge to set up Standbridge Community Centre in 2014. The fact that it is now known as the Monica Graham Centre is testament to her incredible achievements. And part of the legacy she leaves.

“She saw the good in everyone and made friends wherever she went. She touched the lives of countless people and made each one better for having known her. Monica will be greatly missed.”
