Wakefield Council launches new website to showcase its museums and castles
Thursday, October 02, 2025
Wakefield Council has launched a new Museums and Castles website.
The website contains engaging visitor information, including full access guides for each of the museums and castles sites. There is also a suite of new digital content exploring various highlights from the 110,000 objects in the museums’ collections.
“The new website will help to increase the profile of our museums and castles and make it easier for visitors to find out about what these incredible sites can offer.”
Cllr Hannah Appleyard
Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Sport

Teachers can find a wide variety of classroom resources and all the information they need to book one of the popular school workshops.
There is also a new What’s On page. This makes it easier for visitors to find and book onto a whole host of low-cost and no-cost events.
The desktop version of the website also features a promotional video by local photographer and videographer Nick Singleton. There are also new photographs by Singleton and another local photographer, Tatiana Hepplewhite, specially commissioned for the website.
Wakefield Council operates three museums and two scheduled ancient monuments. These are Castleford Museum, Pontefract Castle, Pontefract Museum, Sandal Castle and Wakefield Museum.
The new website can be accessed at https://museumsandcastles.wakefield.gov.uk/
