Wakefield Council invests £98,000 to refurbish Agbrigg Park play area

Monday, March 16, 2026

Wakefield Council has begun work on £98,000 of upgrades to Agbrigg Park play area. Construction is now underway to deliver a modern and engaging space for children aged 1 to 14-years-old.

“We're pleased that work to upgrade the play area has started and that we’ll be able to offer a wide range of play experiences to local children. We want this space to be somewhere children can enjoy physical, imaginative and interactive play.

“This work forms part of our £4 million Big Play and Parks Project, our ongoing commitment to creating better play areas, parks and greenspaces across our district. Making them welcoming and attractive places for everyone to enjoy.”

The project has been developed in partnership with local ward members. And is part of the Council’s £4m Big Play and Parks Project.

The park will benefit from two new multi-play units. One designed for toddlers and another for young children, complete with a quad climber. Other exciting new play items to be installed include a variety of swings such as a nest swing. As well as a pivot seesaw, a roundabout and a hula rotator.

A 20-metre zipline is being added to offer a fun, adventurous activity for older children. While several play panels are set to encourage imaginative and intellectual play. The springie and turtle shell swing seat are designed to offer more side, leg and back support for children with limited co-ordination and body strength.

Once complete, the new play area will offer opportunities for climbing, swinging, spinning and rotating. Supporting key movements to ensure a high-quality play experience.

The transformation of the play area won’t stop there. Subject to planning approval, a fenced artificial‑grass multi‑use games area (MUGA) will also be created alongside the play upgrades, providing a great space for activities such as five‑a‑side football and basketball.

The Council’s £4m Big Play and Parks Project aims to revamp our park and play areas. Creating places where nature can flourish, families can connect, and children can thrive. Find out more about the works planned in each ward, visit www.wakefield.gov.uk/playandparks
