Wakefield Council introduces new financial incentives for foster carers
Thursday, October 23, 2025
New financial incentives are being introduced for Wakefield Council foster carers. These incentives are designed to recognise the incredible work carers do and encourage more people to foster with Wakefield Council.
“We are incredibly proud of the support we offer to carers. From training and peer networks to therapeutic services and a dedicated local team, all these initiatives aim to help our foster carers feel fully supported in everything they do.
The new incentives will help inspire others to open their homes to fostering with Wakefield Council. That will help us make sure every child and young person gets the best start.
If you’ve got space in your heart and home, the team would love to hear from you.”
Councillor Margaret Isherwood
Cabinet Member for Children and Young People

New initiatives are being added to the Council’s generous support package. Including:
- a £500 welcome bonus after three months (with a placement)
- a £500 first-year reward after 12 months (with a short or long-term placement)
- from April 2026, a £500 annual loyalty payment for carers who’ve offered placements (short or long-term) for 48 weeks or more.
Foster carers across the Wakefield district change lives. Carers don’t need to be a parent, own their home, or have experience.
