Wakefield Council appoints new technology enabled care provider

Tuesday, May 26, 2026

Wakefield Council has awarded a new telecare and responder contract to Careium, with preparations underway for the new service to go live on 1 August 2026.

The new contract will provide technology enabled care and emergency response support for residents who rely on telecare as part of an agreed care plan. Helping people to stay safe, supported and independent in their own homes.

Careium will manage the transition for residents so that they have continuous support.

For residents who currently receive telecare as part of their care plan, the Council has confirmed that there will be no break in support, with existing response times, hours of cover and capacity remaining in place. The transition has been designed to be seamless, with no noticeable difference for users when the new service goes live.

“We know how important telecare and responder services are to people and their families, and how much reassurance they provide. Our focus throughout has been to make sure residents continue to feel supported, safe and confident in the help available to them.

“I’m pleased that we’re able to introduce this new service earlier than planned, working with Careium to provide a reliable, high quality telecare offer for Wakefield residents.”

The new contract also creates opportunities to develop more modern, technology enabled approaches to care in the future, strengthening the Council’s ability to support residents with changing needs.
