Sustainable flower beds

We're actively enhancing our green spaces with new, more sustainable flower beds.
An example is the 'Wakefield One' flower beds, that once established become self-sufficient in terms of watering - a theme we're replicating across the district.
So far, we've created eight new flower beds that excel at capturing carbon dioxide and releasing clean oxygen. They also improve biodiversity. These flowers beds are complemented by 20 new Field Maple trees to improve the air quality in the city centre as part of our urban greening projects.
We also operate our own greenhouse, allowing us to grow and propagate plants in-house.
This not only reduces plant delivery vehicle emissions but also generates significant cost savings for the council. Our recent transition to fully battery-powered equipment for mowing, leaf blowing, strimming, and hedge cutting further contributes to cleaner air and reduces noise pollution.
