Support is available for rough sleepers this winter
Wednesday, November 19, 2025
Support is available for residents across the district who are rough sleeping.
If you tell us about someone you have seen rough sleeping, outreach workers will visit the person’s location. They can offer support to try to resolve rough sleeping. As well as providing help to address health concerns and other needs.
Whether you’re sleeping rough or are worried about someone sleeping rough, residents can use StreetLink to make an alert to outreach teams, who can point people to the right support.
Severe weather emergency provision
During periods of severe weather, Wakefield Baptist Church opens as a night shelter. When open, rough sleepers will get:
- a hot evening meal
- breakfast
- a safe and warm space to sleep for that night
- the ability to shower and wash their clothes
- some clothing and toiletries (which they may be able keep, subject to availability)
The shelter opens 8pm to 8am and is located at:
Wakefield Baptist Church
Belle Isle Avenue
WF1 5JY
When the shelter opens, we will notify local organisations and post on our social media.
You can also check whether the shelter is open by contacting the Housing Needs Service on 01924 304 360 or if out of hours our Contact Centre on 0345 8 506 506.
If you would like to volunteer at the shelter this winter season, please get in touch. Full training and support will be provided.
Act now
Don’t wait to become homeless before you reach out for support. If you or someone you know is at risk of becoming homeless within 56 days, you can contact the Housing Needs Service for help.
They offer a free, confidential advice and information service that may help you to keep your home or help you find accommodation that meets your needs.
The team will help you to understand the different options that are available in the Wakefield District to solve your housing problems.
