Sun Lane Leisure Centre upgrade scheme starts
Tuesday, December 02, 2025
Work is underway to install new green technology at Sun Lane Leisure Centre to make the building and pool more energy efficient.
Three rooftop air source heat pumps (ASHPs) will be installed alongside several energy-efficiency upgrades. Including the installation of solar panels, upgrades to the building management system (BMS) and replacement LED lighting throughout. As well as new heat emitters, the integration of an 8,000-litre thermal store to optimise heating performance plus general upgrades to the electrical infrastructure.
“We all know that energy costs continue to rise. These works will provide a more cost and energy efficient pool. Meaning we can keep providing this important and high-quality service that I know so many of our residents use and enjoy.”
Cllr Hannah Appleyard
Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Sport
“Sun Lane Leisure Centre is one of our most energy-intensive buildings. These works will make the building more efficient, reduce carbon emissions, and modernise it for the future.”
Cllr George Ayre
Cabinet Member for Environment and Civic Services
The project is made possible by funding from the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme (PSDS). A total pot of almost £5 million is being invested.
It is being delivered by Alliance Leisure through the UK Leisure Framework, managed by Denbighshire Leisure Ltd (DLL) on behalf of the Council.
The leisure centre will mostly remain open throughout, with a short closure when the new heating systems are switched over.
The upgrade is expected to be completed by March 2026.
