‘Simpler Recycling’ is helping you to recycle even more

Thursday, May 21, 2026

You can now recycle plastic pots, tubs, trays, tubes and cartons in your existing brown recycling bin.

This means items now accepted in the brown bin include glass bottles and jars, clean foil, tins and cans, aluminium trays and empty aerosols, steel and aluminium lids, plastic bottles, pots, tubs, tubes and trays (including non-black plastic plant pots), empty food and drink cartons, along with paper and card.

Please remember to always empty and rinse items for recycling before putting them in the bin.

Our district is already doing well at recycling waste. With residents recycling 48.2% of total waste. But we need to recycle more, and these new updates will help us go even further. And make it easier to get recycling right.

By working together, we can reduce waste, reuse more materials, and move closer to becoming one of the top recycling areas in the country.

The updates are part of the national rollout of Simpler Recycling - a government scheme designed to make recycling easier for residents.
