Rhubarb returns next month

Monday, January 05, 2026

Wakefield’s famous Rhubarb Festival is returning to the city centre next month.

Starting on Friday 20 February and running through until Sunday 22 February, the event features the hugely popular food and drink market. Visitors will be able to enjoy local and regional delights, many with a rhubarb twist.

"We can’t wait to welcome everyone to our family-friendly event that celebrates our famous pink vegetable.

“There is so much to see and do. With chef demonstrations, live music, and craft activities. So pop the dates in your diary and be part of this wonderful event which people come from across the world to experience.”

Cllr Hannah Appleyard

Wakefield Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Sport

Visitors to the market can enjoy everything from cheese, jams and gins to brownies, beer, and chocolate – and of course rhubarb.

Make sure to stop by the Rhubarb Festival Event Hub at WX Wakefield Exchange where there will be more market stalls alongside free craft activities. WX will also be the location for the chef demos, where the professionals will show you how to make delicious recipes with the famous vegetable.

Visit the Rhu-Bar and enjoy a well-earned drink and hear from local musicians programmed by the Wakefield Music Collective.

Families can enjoy street entertainment from festival favourites Ruby Rhubarb and the Rhubarb Fairy.

Run in partnership with Wakefield BID, the Rhubarb Food & Drink Trail is back with another range of incredible local bars, restaurants and cafes serving a variety of limited-edition rhubarb delights.

The festival runs on Friday 20 and Saturday 21 February from 10am – 5pm. And on Sunday 22 February from 10am – 4pm.
