Pontefract Liquorice Festival is back on Sunday

Get ready for sweet-themed fun celebrating Pontefract’s historic link with liquorice as the event returns Sunday 14 July, 10am-4pm.
“There’s lots of fun planned for the festival so come along and enjoy the wide variety of entertainment on offer, including the return of the much-loved parade.
“You can also browse the colourful stalls, selling a wide variety of produce – many with a liquorice twist.
“The festival is once again shaping up to be a really great day out for all the family.”

Expect tasty treats to tempt the taste buds, quirky gifts and homeware that you just won’t find anywhere else as the renowned specialty market returns.
Marvel at the Liquorice Parade, led by HARIBO’s iconic Goldbear, and featuring a cast of vibrant costumes, inspired by some HARIBO favourites, as well as other liquorice classics. There will be performances at Corn Market at 11:30am and 2:30pm. There will also be a performance at Pontefract Castle at 1:30pm.
There will be plenty of entertainment including Lucy Liquorice, a bubble entertainer and the Liquorice Ladies stilt entertainers. Visitors can also listen to live music from talented local musicians.
Extend your stay with the return of the Liquorice Food & Drink Trail and sample sweet-themed specials from the incredible bars, restaurants and cafés that Pontefract has to offer.
For those wanting to find out more about the history of liquorice, learn about Pontefract’s heritage at Pontefract Library with heritage talks at 11am and 2pm and join Pontefract Museum for their sweet-themed crafts and trail.
Head to Pontefract Castle for The Big Family Picnic 11am-3pm, where there will be self-led family activities including giant garden games, circus skills, and a giant hula hoop maze.
Pontefract Liquorice Festival runs in partnership with the Pontefract Civic Society who are also hosting Liquorice Shoots on Saturday 13 July - a community warm-up event for the main festival featuring entertainment, artisan stalls and family activities.
