Paw-some art trail unveiled in Horbury park

A fun and colourful art trail inspired by ideas from the local community has been unveiled in Carr Lodge Park in Horbury.
The six cast iron dog sculptures have been placed along the park’s path and have been brought to life through colourful artistic decoration. Each sculpture is painted differently, offering both a visual delight and an enjoyable trail through the park.
“This art trail is really vibrant and brings fun and colour to this much-loved park.
“With the support of local ward councillors and the community, this project has created something meaningful that connects with everyone.
“It’s a great opportunity for everyone to visit the park and enjoy this paw-fect public artwork.”

The sculptures have been brought to life by Wakefield-based artist Jenny Hutchinson, in partnership with The Friends of Horbury’s Parks, The Senior Citizens Support Group at The Cluntergate Centre, and the 44th Guides at Horbury Bridge Church. The final designs reflect the community’s input and ideas as well as highlighting the rich natural environment around them.
Each of the sculptures is in the shape of the nation’s most loved pet, with some of them sniffing and others sitting.
Artist, Jenny Hutchinson, said: “I love working with people, both adults and children, and being inspired by nature and the natural world. I saw this artists brief, and the location, as the perfect opportunity to highlight the local flora and fauna of our community parks. This will help to brighten up the areas during the winter months and will also provide opportunities for children to learn about the plants and wildlife of Horbury.”
The murals were supported by the Wakefield Council Community Grants Programme, Arts Council England and West Yorkshire Combined Authority.
