Wednesday, January 21, 2026
Wakefield Council has completed improvements to Ferrybridge play area. Providing a fun new play area for children.
The project has been developed in partnership with local ward members. And is part of the Council’s commitment to improving play areas and parks across the district.
“It’s great that the work has now been completed at Ferrybridge Park. Children will be able to enjoy it for many years to come.
“The new play area provides a welcoming space for local families. It has been designed to spark imagination for younger children and provide more adventurous challenges for older ones.”
Cllr George Ayre
Cabinet Member for Environment and Civic Services
The project has been designed to promote creativity and imagination. Which supports both physical and mental development in children.
It includes several inclusive play features for those with restricted mobility, sensory impairment and neuro-developmental conditions. Including:
- low level, easy access points to help children with restricted mobility
- the use of contrasting colours to aid visually impaired children in navigating getting on and off the equipment
- single user activities to allow children to play independently and to reduce sensory overload
Brand new for the park is a 20m single zipline, allowing children to glide through the air. And helping to develop skills like balance and coordination.
Other upgrades include new slides, a variety of swings, a roundabout and two climbing towers suitable for different age ranges. Children will be able to enjoy a wide range of play experiences including climbing, swinging, gliding, sliding, traversing, spinning, rocking, and rotating.
