New app to encourage adults to get reading

Monday, October 05, 2026

Our libraries are now offering access to a new app to help adults get reading.

Read On is a free reading app designed to help users build lasting reading habits through personalised plans, challenges, quizzes, and library connections.

Inspired by the "Couch to 5K" approach, it provides a structured, step-by-step method to gradually increase reading frequency and explore new books. The app is suitable for all ages and reading levels, making it ideal for casual readers, book enthusiasts, or anyone looking to rediscover reading.

“As the nights draw in why not try reading as your winter hobby, and do it with the support of this fun reading app with timers, quizzes, mini challenges and more. You could be on a winning streak with your wellbeing through reading before long.”

Access to the app has been funded thanks to investment from Libraries Connected Yorkshire and Humber.

2026 is the National Year of Reading so it’s never been a better time to #GoAllIn and try something new like this.
