Learn a new skill in 2026 with our adult education courses

Monday, November 24, 2025

Wakefield residents are being encouraged to develop new skills and build on existing experience in 2026 with a course from the Wakefield Adult Education Service.

The new courses have now been published at: https://www.wakefield.gov.uk/adultedcourses and residents are encouraged to enquire as soon as possible, as places fill quickly.

“We’re pleased to be able to offer residents the chance to boost their skills in 2026.

“So far this academic year, we have seen nearly 2,000 enrolments to our courses, including both new and progressing learners. Whether you’re wanting to advance your skills or try something creative, there’s a course for everyone.

“We’re here to support you every step of the way. Learners will be invited to our welcome events to discuss their needs. And receive one-to-one advice from practitioners. So you can be confident you are enrolling on the best course to achieve your goals.”

Classes are available for people to improve their essential numeracy, literacy and digital skills, boost their employment prospects, study for a recognised professional qualification, or explore their creative interests.

Courses cater to all skill levels, with classes for beginners up to Level 2. The Council also has an extensive range of online courses, offering flexibility to those who need it.

Courses are open to adults aged 19 and over. And with Wakefield Adult Education, learners can benefit from smaller class sizes and supportive, mature learning environments.

Many courses are free and residents who are unemployed and seeking work, or earning less than £25,750 per year, are entitled to a fully funded course where fees are charged. Some people can also get help with travel costs, equipment and/or childcare.

Wakefield is a UNESCO Global Learning City, and champions lifelong learning and its vital role in strengthening communities, upskilling the local workforce and contributing to a strong local economy.
