Knottingley’s Acacia Walk play area gets a revamp

Tuesday, July 07, 2026

The Acacia Walk play area in Knottingley is ready for summer fun, with a brand-new play area for children and families to enjoy and stay active.

The improvements have been made with a £97,000 investment by Wakefield Council, with support from local ward members. The new play area has been designed for children up to the age of 14, creating a place where young people can play together.

There is lots to explore and enjoy. New climbing units for toddlers and older children help build balance and confidence. Interactive panels add a fun way to think and learn. There is also a hula rotator, a seesaw, and a range of swings to keep everyone moving and smiling.

The park has been made more inclusive so all children can enjoy it. A wheelchair-friendly roundabout is now in place, along with easy access points on the multi-play equipment. A springie with side transfer access has been installed, allowing children to safely move from a wheelchair and enjoy the ride.

New benches and a new bin complete the park.

The council's parks team has already started work to improving other play areas in Ossett and Castleford, bringing more great outdoor spaces to communities across the district.
