We want everyone to feel involved in decisions which impact our local communities. Both when these are things that affect you now or that will affect you in the future.
Wakefield Involves is our new framework that sets out a transparent, structured process to how we consult, engage, and involve you – wherever you live or work in our district.
“It’s a major priority for us that local people feel their voices are heard. We should be able to have a say when important decisions are made that affect our lives. That’s not always happened consistently in Wakefield in the past.
“Whether you’re a resident, run a business or community organisation, or are one of our partners. We want to build a genuine understanding of what you need from the Council to help us improve our local area and for you to be able to easily access the support, advice, or information you need.
“Developing a clear consultation and engagement framework is a key part of achieving that objective.”

The framework sets out the difference between consultation, engagement, and information sharing. And it explains when we might use these different approaches – with decisions made by the Council ranging from large scale development projects to smaller changes that might only affect a specific street.
Its publication is part of a resident-centred approach which signals our commitment to inclusive, transparent, timely, and informative consultation and engagement.
