Investing in your roads - September 2025
Friday, October 24, 2025
Keeping our district moving is one of our top priorities. That’s why we’re investing over £20m into our roads over the next two years.
Cllr Matthew Morley, Cabinet Member for Planning and Highways
We work around the clock to keep your roads and footpaths safe and well maintained. Here are just some of the things we did last month:
September 2025
Castleford
At Thornhill Road we replaced flagstones that were damaged beyond repair, replacing them with a new road surface. As part of this work we adjusted 9 manholes and 14 stop taps to ensure that everything is safe and effective for residents.
Normanton
Our teams were hard at work last month doing resurfacing works at Maple Grove.
Pontefract
Pontefract is one of our busiest towns. And you may have seen our teams out and about last month out doing resurfacing works at Tudor Close, Victor Road, Appleshawn Crescent and Back Church Lane. It’s all part of our service to help keep the district running smoothly.
Sitlington
To improve safety, we installed a new sign at Blacker Lane due to the bridleway location being altered slightly, making the route and destination clear for users.
Thorpe Audlin
Flooding protection is an important part of our work. We were working at Thorpe Lane last month.
Our most recent work has included inspecting and replacing gullies deemed to be damaged or ineffective. We also carried out a repair to an existing connection. We also installed a new chamber to allow access for specialist contractors to monitor and maintain pipework.
Wakefield
This month we carried out lots of work as part of improvements to the Kirkgate / Ings Road corridor.
We’ve recently completed a full upgrade of the traffic signals at this junction. The old, unreliable equipment has been replaced with modern, energy-efficient technology, improving both performance and sustainability.
As part of the works, several previously uncontrolled crossing points have been converted into safer, push-button controlled pedestrian crossings. All the new signal heads now use low-voltage LED technology, enhancing visibility while reducing energy use.
And at Milthorpe Lane we did footpath resurfacing on the public right of way, to help all users to get around safely.
Thank you
To carry out this work, we must sometimes close roads and put temporary diversions in place. We always try to keep disruption to a minimum and carry out work as quickly as we can, without compromising on quality.
Thank you for bearing with us while we continue to improve your roads.
The table above shows just some of the work we’ve been doing. A detailed programme of work carried out across the district is also available.
