Our teams have been out and about across the district, carrying out a wide range of improvements. This work helps to help keep people moving safely and keeps our roads and footways in good condition. Here’s a quick round-up of what’s been happening near you:
Work completed in July 2026
Airedale
In Airedale, the team has replaced the birds mouth fencing at The Square, providing a stronger and more durable barrier.
Altofts
The team has completed carriageway surfacing and crossing improvement works on Bosworth Avenue, Altofts. These works have enhanced the condition of the road surface and improved crossing facilities to provide a more accessible environment for all.
Castleford
In Castleford, the team has been busy completing a range of highway improvements. On Elizabeth Drive, both the carriageway and footway have been resurfaced for smoother surfaces for motorists and pedestrians.
On Redhill Walk, block paving has been relaid to restore the footway, creating a safer path for pedestrians.
Bollards have also been installed on Albion Street and Lower Oxford Street, helping to protect pedestrian areas and improve safety for all.
In addition, the puffin crossing near Castleford College on Leeds Road has been refurbished for an accessible and safe route for pedestrians in the area.
Durkar
General highways maintenance work has been completed on Eastwood Close, Durkar, where the team carried out a trial hole investigation.
Eastmoor
On Windhill Road in Eastmoor the team have constructed a new concrete base as part of general highways maintenance work for a more resilient road infrastructure.
Flanshaw
The team has resurfaced the carriageway on Homestead Drive, improving driving conditions.
Ferrybridge
In Ferrybridge, the team has completed footway patching works on Pontefract Road and carried out footway patching and edging improvements on Vale Walk.
In addition, 10 metres of pedestrian guardrail (PGR) has been replaced on Pontefract Road, helping to improve pedestrian safety
Hemsworth
The team has completed carriageway resurfacing works on Hollings Mount and Westcroft Road in Hemsworth, improving the quality of the road surface for local road users.
In addition, carriageway patching has been carried out on Pontefract Road to address areas of deterioration.
And footway patching and kerbing improvements have been completed on Hawthorn Avenue, to enhance pedestrian safety.
Knottingley
The footway has been improved on Racca Green.
The team has also repaired a barrier on the A162 near Knottingley, helping to improve safety for road users.
Lupset
The carriageway on Sherwood Grove in Lupset has been resurfaced, to provide a smoother journey for drivers. And the 4m pedestrian guardrail (PGR) on Horbury Road has been replaced to help improve safety for pedestrians and road users.
Newmillerdam
Crucial drainage improvement works have been completed on Almshouse Lane in Newmillerdam. This included the installation of new kerbing, channelling and ACO drainage channels, alongside carriageway patching. This is all to help improve the management of surface water and reduce the risk of drainage issues.
These improvements will help reduce surface water issues, improve road conditions and provide safer journeys for all highway users.
Normanton
A range of improvements has been completed in Normanton. A footway slurry seal has been applied on Queensway, helping to improve the condition of the footway.
As part of general maintenance works, tree pit works have been carried out on Gladstone Street, and a bollard has been replaced on Assembly Street to help keep pedestrians safe and help keep the street safe and in good condition.
North Elmsall
In North Elmsall, the team has completed carriageway patching works on Bailey Crescent, planing 50mm of the road surface to improve the condition of the carriageway.
On Woodcock Way, a burnt tarmac area has been reinstated, ensuring it remains safe for local residents and road users.
Ossett
We have refurbished the junction at Manor Road/Sowood Lane, helping to improve safety and ease of travel for road users.
On Towngate, tree pit works have been completed as part of ongoing maintenance, while in South Ossett, two speed ramps on Sowood Grange have been replaced to help manage vehicle speeds and improve road safety.
Pontefract
It's been busy for our teams in Pontefract. We’re committed to providing safe and efficient roads for all.
There has been lots of carriageway works with resurfacing completed on Wolsey Avenue, Lemon Tree Close and on Crab Hill, and carriageway patching on Stuart Road. Further maintenance patching has also been done on Dark Lane.
On Rutland Avenue, the team has completed footway patching and edging works to improve the condition of the pavement.
The team has completed drainage repair works on Park Lane, addressing a collapsed carrier within the existing drainage system. The repair will help restore the effective flow of surface water and reduce the risk of flooding.
Purston Jaglin
We have completed carriageway patching works on Katrina Grove in Purston Jaglin for a safer journey for road users.
Ryhill
In Ryhill, we have completed maintenance works on Willow Drive, including the replacement and relaying of speed ramps and block paving. These improvements help maintain effective traffic calming measures and enhance road safety for all.
South Kirkby
In South Kirkby, the team has completed carriageway resurfacing works on Park Estate to provide a smoother and safer road surface for local residents.
In addition, maintenance patching has been carried out on Mayfields Way, to improve any areas of wear and tear.
As part of general maintenance work, on Carr Lane, we've replaced an existing bench.
The team has completed pot design change works on White Apron Street and Grove Drive. These improvements will help make sure that drainage functions effectively.
Lastly, UTC (Urban Traffic Control) improvement works have been completed at the junction of Barnsley Road and Minsthorpe Lane. This included the installation of a new right-turn arrow and refreshed road markings, along with upgraded vehicle detection technology.
These improvements will help traffic flow more efficiently through the junction and enhance safety for all road users.
South Ossett
In South Ossett, the team has completed footway patching works on Teall Street to provide a safer and more comfortable route for residents and pedestrians.
Stanley
In Stanley, the team has completed carriageway resurfacing works on Marshall Street, providing a smoother road surface for drivers. On Baker Lane, carriageway patching and crossing improvements have been carried out to improve road safety.
As part of general highways maintenance, a cycleway end bollard has been replaced on Eastern Relief Road, helping to maintain safety for cyclists and pedestrians.
To complete the programme of works in Stanley, pot design change works have also been undertaken on Riverdale Avenue and Lake Lock Road to improve drainage systems.
Streethouse
The team has completed carriageway resurfacing works on Whinney Close in Streethouse to provide a smoother journey for drivers.
Thornes
Over in Thornes, the team has completed footway patching works on Mount Crescent providing a safer, more comfortable route for pedestrians.
On Thornes Road, birdsmouth fencing has been replaced to provide a stronger barrier and helping to improve safety and enhance the appearance of the area.
Wakefield
In Wakefield, a range of improvements have been delivered as part of our Summer of Action programme. Carriageway resurfacing works have been completed on King Street and Silver Street in Wakefield city centre, providing smoother journeys for motorists.
The team has also carried out footway patching on Darnley Avenue, creating a safer, more comfortable route for pedestrians.
As part of general highways maintenance, works on conservation kerbs on Marsh Way, helping to maintain the condition of the highway. In addition, sink hole repairs at Westgate End have been completed to make sure the highway remains safe and accessible for all users.
These works are helping to improve roads, pavements and highway infrastructure across Wakefield, benefiting residents, businesses and visitors alike.
Walton
In Walton, the team has completed Public Rights of Way (PROW) works on Footpath Walton 10, helping to maintain a safe and accessible route for users.
On Brooklands Avenue, a pot design change has been carried out as part of drainage works to improve the effectiveness of the drainage system.
Whitwood
The team has completed improvements at the Whitwood Common Lane and Pioneer Way junction, where new detection equipment has been installed and the site has been upgraded.
These enhancements will help improve traffic and support safer and more efficient journeys for all.
