Keeping our district moving is one of our top priorities. That’s why we’re investing over £12m into improving our roads over the next 12 months.
We work around the clock to keep your roads and footpaths safe and well maintained. Here are just some of the things we have been doing recently:
February and March 2026
Ackworth
Our hard-working teams have been busy in Ackworth, including making repairs to Beechwood Dale.
We’ve carried out resurfacing work at Denton Gardens, York Place and Villa Close. And we’ve also repaired footpaths at Went Hill, Howard Drive and Orchard Drive.
Airedale
We’ve carried out road resurfacing work at Stansfield Close, and made repairs to The Green, Airedale. This type of work helps keep our local communities moving.
Alverthorpe
As part of our ongoing highways programme, we’ve been making repairs to Blakey Road, and Conway Road, Alverthorpe.
Castleford
Safety is our number one priority. We’ve been making repairs and improvements to pavements across the district. This includes the completion of a footway resurfacing scheme at Lumley Avenue, Castleford.
We’ve also carried out resurfacing work at Powell Street. And at Mill Lane, we installed a pedestrian guard rail and fencing to help keep pedestrians and road users safe.
Crofton
It’s important to make sure footpaths are well maintained, and our teams have been busy in Crofton at Priory Ridge, Lovell View, Scott Drive, Spring Lane, Middle Lane, Beech Avenue, Greenside Park, Greenside Court. This work helps people to move around their local areas safely.
Darrington
Our teams have been busy carrying out maintenance work at Church Lane, Darrington. We’ve been working on filling defects and repairing sections of the road surface, to improve journeys for motorists.
Dennington
Vegetation has been cleared from the Woolley Low Moor and Daw Lane, and this will improve drainage into gullies. It’s an important part of the work we do as part of our maintenance programme.
Ferrybridge
Our teams were busy at Hampden Close in Ferrybridge this month. We’ve conducted targeted surface restoration and other essential repairs to maintain the road. As well as working on repairs at St Andrews Drive.
Fitzwilliam
A new system has been put in place at Wakefield Road / Newstead Lane in Fitzwilliam to help right turning traffic.
It’s all part of our commitment to keeping the district running smoothly. Resurfacing work has also taken place at Newstead Crescent.
Hemsworth
Keeping everyone safe when out and about matters to us. We’ve put a Puffin crossing in place at Barnsley Road / Meadow Rise in Hemsworth – this will help pedestrians and road users stay safe.
We’ve also carried our resurfacing work at Grove Terrace and Little Hemsworth.
Hessle
We carry out lots of work as part of our scheduled improvements to roads programme. This included doing resurfacing works At King Royd Lane, Hessle, and other essential repairs to maintain the road.
Horbury
Resurfacing work took place in George Street, and repairs at Dovecote Lane, Horbury. It’s all part of our commitment to help keep the district moving. Making sure our roads are safe is important and this work also reduces the risk of future damage.
Kettlethorpe
Our teams were hard at work last month doing resurfacing work in Kettlethorpe. You might have seen them working to improve Handsworth Road. All part of the ongoing work we do to support our district’s road network.
Knottingley
Resurfacing work took place at The Ridgeway, as well as repair work to Willow Road. This type of work helps to keep our roads safe and helps reduces the risk of future damage.
Lofthouse
We have completed work to resurface Ridings Mews, Lofthouse, and at Wallace Gardens and at Ridings court, Lofthouse Gate. This work makes a real difference and helps all users to get around safely.
Lupset
We’ve been undertaking surface repairs to improve Lindsay Avenue. This is part of our ongoing work to support and maintain the district’s road network.
Normanton
Making sure pedestrians can get around the district safely is important. As part of our commitment to this, we’ve been working in Normanton to improve footpaths at Western Gales and Magdalene Fields, Augusta Drive, Rosedale Close, Turnbury Court and Lytham Close. As well as at Roxburghe Dale, Rosemount Drive and Woburn Way.
Road resurfacing work has also taken place at Newfield Court, Beckbridge Way and Shaw Avenue.
North Elmsall
Our teams have been out working to repair a damaged gully at St Margarets Court and Hall Lane. By maintaining our roads properly and channelling surface water away, not only are we making them safer we are also helping to reduce the need to carry out future costly, large-scale repairs.
Ossett
Road resurfacing works were carried out at Guildford Street, Ossett, and repairs have been made to Dale Street.
Making sure our roads are maintained improves safety and reduces the risk of future damage.
Outwood
We’ve been carrying out important road surface maintenance, including localized resurfacing and minor repairs. This includes resurfacing Hazelwood Court, Outwood.
Painthorpe
Road repairs have taken place at Woodmoor Rise, Painthorpe. Making sure our roads are maintained, supports safety and reduces the risk of future damage.
Pontefract
Our teams were hard at work last month doing resurfacing works at Kings Street, Chestnut Green Backs and Orchard Head Lane and Carleton Glen. With repair work at West Mount Street. It’s all part of our commitment to keeping the district running smoothly.
As part of our recent work a handrail was installed at Mayors Walk. And work was carried out at Headlands Road to improve drainage.
Ryhill
A footpath at Chapel Street, Ryhill has received a new surface cover as part of our plan to improve safety and support long term maintenance. Repairs were also carried out to Ferry Top Lane.
Sandal
Resurfacing work took place at Manygates Lane. The work will help users get around safely, and will help to prevent future deterioration of the surface.
South Elmsall
A footpath at Bailey Crescent, South Elmsall, has been repaired. This work forms part of our ongoing preventative maintenance scheme to extend the life of our pavements. By applying a new protective surface, we are improving and extending the lifespan of the footpath.
South Hiendley
Resurfacing work was carried out at Chestnut Drive. The safety of our residents is a priority, and these improvements support better, more reliable travel.
South Kirkby
Improvement work was carried out on footpaths in Northfield Lane, Church View, Church Villas, Church Grove, Church Avenue and Church Mount. And at Heather Close and Ings Close.
South Ossett
Our teams carried out improvement work in South Ossett, resurfacing Parkfield Drive and Parkfield View. These repairs help us to maintain safe and efficient roads.
Thorpe Audlin
Ditching work got underway at Wentbridge Lane, Thorpe Audlin. Making sure our roads have safe, reliable drainage solutions improves safety and reduces the risk of future damage.
Upton
We repaired a footpath at Harewood Lane, Upton. This work forms part of our preventative maintenance scheme to extend the life of footways. Applying this new protective surface not only repairs minor defects, it also improves safety.
Wakefield
Block paving repairs were carried out at Westgate in Wakefield. Safety is our number one priority, and these improvements help ensure everyone can get around in a way that’s safe.
A new high-level signal has been added to the traffic crossing at Leeds Road and Westfield Road Junction in Wakefield - this work supports our ongoing commitment to keeping road users safe.
Resurfacing work took place at Turton Street Wakefield. And repairs were carried out at Norton Road.
Our team installed additional high level traffic lights at the junction of Northgate and Westfield Lane in Wakefield. And a new CCTV camera was installed at Marsh Way / Lower Warrengate, Wakefield. These measures are part of the service to keep road users and pedestrians safe.
Walton
Footpaths at Elmwood Drive and Elmwood Close have been resurfaced, so they last longer and help pedestrians stay safe.

To carry out this work, we must sometimes close roads and put temporary diversions in place. We always try to keep disruption to a minimum and carry out work as quickly as we can, without compromising on quality.
