Our teams have been out and about across the district, carrying out a wide range of improvements. This work helps to help keep people moving safely and keeps our roads and footways in good condition. Here’s a quick round-up of what’s been happening near you:
Work completed in April and May 2026
Ackton
We’ve been busy improving footpaths on West End Avenue, Gothic Mount and Warren Drive – helping people get around their neighbourhood more safely.
At Havertop Lane, the team focused on carriageway maintenance to keep roads safe and accessible.
Ackworth
Footway repairs have taken place on Barncroft Close, Barleyfields Close, Barnsdale Way, Paddock Close and Hayfield Way. This work helps to keep paths in good shape for the future.
We’ve carried out drainage improvements on Bell Lane, including repairs to the main pipe, and continued ditch maintenance on Pontefract Road to help prevent flooding. Work was also completed on the pedestrian island on Doncaster Road to make it safer for people getting around.
Agbrigg
Flood sensors have been installed at Agbrigg Pumping Station, helping teams monitor more effectively and respond quickly when needed.
Altofts
Improvements to footpaths have been carried out on Whitwood Lane, Altofts Lane and Pope Street. This improvement work will make walking routes safer and more durable.
Carleton
As part of our maintenance programme, we’ve replaced stone paving on Green Lane.
Castleford
It’s been a busy time for our teams in Castleford, with road resurfacing completed on a number of streets including Holywell Lane, Queens Road and Kings Avenue.
We’ve also improved footways at Cedar Court and treated paths in several other areas, including Barnsdale Estate. Kerbing work has also been carried out in Airedale.
There’s been a real mix of activity here, from Surface Dressing of Holywell Lane, and resurfacing on Wheldon Road and Back Garden Street, to replacing bollards and cycle hoops across the area. Following a road collapse on Station Road, investigations are underway to identify the right fix.
Crigglestone
Surface Dressing on High Street will help extend the life of the road and improve journeys for everyone using it.
Cutsyke
A new pedestrian guard rail has been installed on Aketon Road to improve safety.
Crofton
Pavement repairs at Kendal Rise, Cambridge Crescent and Rutland Drive are helping extend the life of paths and improve safety. We’ve also carried out maintenance work on High Street to keep traffic moving smoothly.
Footpaths at routes 5 and 8 have been cleared of overgrown vegetation, making them easier and safer to use.
Featherstone
A footway repair at Cedar Walk has been completed, along with junction improvements at Featherstone Lane, Park Lane and North Featherstone to help traffic flow more easily.
Felkirk
Surface Dressing has been completed at Church Lane, Raven Lane and Sandybridge Lane, extending the life of the road.
Flanshaw
Repairs to footways on Derwent Drive and Langdale Drive are helping people move around more comfortably.
Glasshoughton
A pedestrian guard rail at Park Road has been replaced as part of ongoing safety improvements.
Havercroft
Repairs at West Street are part of our regular programme to keep footways safe and long-lasting.
Hemsworth
Work completed to restore the footpath at Grove Terrace is making it easier and safer for pedestrians to get around.
Horbury
We’ve carried out road improvements at Manor Road, Cluntergate and Gervase Road, along with completing pavement work at Tithe Barn Street to help extend its lifespan.
Work on Southfield Lane supports safer travel and active journeys, alongside road resurfacing at Church Street.
Kettlethorpe
Footpath repairs have been completed on Fairbrook Road.
Kirkhamgate
Improvement work on a crossing and footway resurfacing at Brandy Carr Road is making it easier for pedestrians to travel safely.
Knottingley
Footpath improvements at Hammond Road, Eddystone Road and Grove Lane have been completed, alongside road repairs at Foundry Lane.
Micro asphalt preventative treatment to Foundry Lane and Hazel Road has been completed to keep journeys smoother and safer.
Lofthouse
Extensive footpath repairs have taken place across the Springfield and Virginia areas, helping keep routes safe and in good condition.
Lupset
A pedestrian guard rail has been replaced on Wakefield Road to improve safety.
Middlestown
Road repairs at Sandy Lane will help prevent further deterioration and keep journeys smoother.
Normanton
Repairs to footways at Queensway and Sylvester Avenue, along with road works at Newland Lane, are helping improve safety for everyone.
Kerbing work at Pontefract Road and footway resurfacing at Queensway are helping improve the local streetscene.
Ossett
A wide range of improvements have taken place here — from road and kerb repairs at Ventnor Way, Chancery Road and Manor Road, to block paving in Station Road. We’ve also repaired a footbridge, removed a fallen tree trunk, and carried out improvements at Dale Street.
Footway repairs have been completed at Fairfield Drive and Avenue, with road works also carried out at Station Road and Wesley Street.
Outwood
Our teams have repaired footpaths in several streets, improved a pedestrian crossing at Belfry Court and re-laid blocks at Newton Lane.
Resurfacing on Lingwell Court and drainage improvements at Newton Lane are part of ongoing efforts to keep the area moving.
Pontefract
There’s been a lot going on here, including footway repairs across multiple locations, road repairs at Loscoe Lane, and improvements such as new pedestrian safety rails and access to Fitzwilliam Country Park.
Maintenance work across areas like Streethouse, Chequerfield and Airedale — including tarmacking, preventative treatments, kerbing and road repairs — will help keep routes in good condition for longer.
Ryhill
Resurfacing at Ferry Top Lane is helping maintain road quality and reduce future wear and tear.
Sharlston
Footway repairs have been completed on Wood Street.
Sharlston Common
Footway works at The Heathers, Springvale Close and nearby streets are helping keep paths here in good condition.
Sitlington
Footpaths 31, 42 and 25 have been cleared and improved, with new signage added to help people navigate more easily.
South Elmsall
We’ve replaced a pedestrian guard rail on Barnsley Road to help keep people safe.
South Kirkby
Repairs at Bracken Hill will help extend the life of this well-used pedestrian route.
Drainage work at Lidgate Crescent and Stockingate, including a new-style gully pot, will help manage surface water more effectively.
South Ossett
At Garden Close, teams have been investigating a sinkhole to determine the best long-term solution.
Stanley
Footway repairs at Stonecroft, drainage improvements at Lee Moor Lane and a new guard rail on Newmarket Lane have all been completed.
Wakefield
It’s been particularly busy here, with repairs taking place across Stanley, Portobello and the city centre. This includes Surface dressing preventative treatments, road repairs, guard rail replacements, drainage fixes and safety improvements to footpaths. Work on the A650 Wrenthorpe bypass has also strengthened sections of railings and kerbs.
Footway improvements across Thornes and Newton Avenue, along with road repairs at Doncaster Road and Kirkthorpe Lane, are helping keep the city moving safely. We’ve also installed a new guard rail at Quebec Street.
Walton
Footpath 2 has been cleared, helping keep the route open and enjoyable to use.
West Bretton
Surface dressing preventative treatments Huddersfield Road are helping maintain a safer, smoother surface.
Whitwood
Surface dressing preventative treatments at Gilcar Way is part of wider efforts to keep the road network in good condition.
Woolley
A new bench has been installed on Woolley Low Moor Lane for the community to enjoy.
Wrenthorpe
Small-scale ditching repairs at Jerry Clay Lane are tackling issues early and helping prevent larger problems down the line.
Footway repairs have been carried out on Mount Avenue and Windsor Road.
