Have your say on stronger powers to tackle anti-social behaviour in Castleford

Wakefield Council is asking residents, businesses and visitors to have their say on plans to strengthen powers to tackle anti-social behaviour. It’s part of work to help keep Castleford town centre safe, welcoming and enjoyable for everyone.
The Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO), which helps to prevent anti-social behaviour in the town centre, is due to expire in November. The Council is seeking your views on plans to apply the order for a further three years and introduce additional measures.
“PSPOs play a key role in helping to prevent and tackle anti-social behaviour. That’s why we’re looking to get stronger powers over a bigger area in Castleford.
"People want to enjoy our town centre without being affected by anti-social behaviour. These proposals will help make sure we have the right powers in place to protect our communities while continuing to work closely with partners to address the root causes of these issues.
“We want to hear from as many people as possible. Particularly Castleford residents and everyone who works in the town. Your views will help us shape our plans so that the PSPO continues to meet the needs of the local community.”

The Council is proposing to:
• apply the PSPO for another three years
• introduce new rules to deal with a wider range of anti-social behaviours
• expand the PSPO area to include the retail park between Albion Street and the railway line.
Public Space Protection Orders give Councils powers to restrict or prohibit activities in public places that have a detrimental impact on local communities. The proposals aim to support local businesses, improve public confidence and create a safer town centre environment for everyone.
Anyone failing to comply with the PSPO can receive a fixed penalty notice of up to £100 or a fine of up to £1,000.
