Step Up, Wakefield Council’s flagship employment and skills service, is holding an event to help residents improve their career or wellbeing.
‘Step Up Your Money, Health and Wellbeing’ is aimed at helping residents become as healthy as they can be – whether that means improving your finances, health or career.
“Our specialist Step Up team provides free one-to-one support to help our residents find work, improve skills and get on in their careers.
“If you’ve made a new year’s resolution – whatever it is – then this event will be a great place to start.
“We will have a range of services and charities under one roof who will be able to help you become a healthier you.”
Cllr Michael Graham
Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Economic Growth
Charlotte came to Step Up last year after hearing about the service from a family member.
She wanted to work in administration but was struggling to find the right job and secure it and was starting to feel quite demotivated about her prospects.
Her advisor helped her to hone her application form technique so that she was showing her skills in the right way to ensure she was securing interviews.
Despite the first couple of interviews not bringing success, together they took the feedback she was given by the employer and used this to improve her interview technique.
Charlotte has now secured a job as a Business Support Assistant and is thrilled at her success, she said: “Step Up has helped me by raising my confidence and helping me believe in myself more.
“The support they give is non-judgemental and highly encouraging.”
The event will be held on Tuesday 30 January, 10am-1pm, above Pure Gym at Trinity Walk Shopping Centre, WF1 1QS.
All residents aged 15 or over are welcome and you can just turn up.
A range of experts will be on hand to give advice, including about money and budgeting, green jobs, eating healthily and learning how to reduce energy bills or your carbon footprint.
Those attending alongside the Step Up team will include:
• Green Doctors
• Green Skills
• Wakefield Council’s Energy Team – saving money on bills, housing etc (bringing freebies)
