Good luck to Wakefield Trinity

Cllr Karl Johnson, Leader of Wakefield Council, said: “It’s an incredible achievement for Trinity to make it to a first ever Grand Final. It’s even more impressive to have got there by dominating such a strong Wigan Warriors side on their own patch.

“I want to wish Daryl Powell, all of the players, and everyone connected with Wakefield Trinity success on Saturday. Becoming only the sixth team ever to win Super League would showcase rugby league in our district to an international sporting audience.

“It’s made even more special when we think Trinity were playing in the Championship as recently as 2024. Matt Ellis and the club’s leadership team promised to bring the good times back to Belle Vue. I think it’s fair to say they’ve delivered on that promise.

“Our city will stop at 6pm on Saturday night and I’m looking forward to seeing a Wakefield takeover of Old Trafford. Venues across the district will be showing the game. So, if you’re not heading to Manchester, support our great local businesses whilst watching Trinity make history.”
