Film Wakefield brings screen industry together to celebrate first anniversary

Film Wakefield will mark its first anniversary with a networking event at WX Wakefield on Thursday 24 September.
Founded in 2025, Film Wakefield promotes Wakefield and the Five Towns as locations for film and TV production while supporting local creative talent and businesses. It was created by industry experts including Policelot, Wakefield Council, Experience Wakefield, Emma Stakes (freelancer), Creative Wakefield, and Production Park.
"Film Wakefield's success over the past year is a real reflection of the talent, creativity and ambition found across our district.
“Wakefield is home to hundreds of creative businesses and freelance professionals whose talent and innovation make a significant contribution to our local economy.
“This event is open to anyone who works in, or wants to work in, this exciting industry. It offers a valuable opportunity to network, share ideas, and connect with experienced professionals who have built successful careers in the sector."

Founded by Wakefield-based industry professional David Clayton, who has more than 30 years on-set experience, Film Wakefield has built a strong network of supporters working to raise the area's profile within the screen industries.
David Clayton, Founder of Film Wakefield, said: "What we've achieved in just one year demonstrates the appetite and potential that exists within Wakefield's creative community. We've built new relationships, showcased local talent and started important conversations with industry partners.
"This event is not only about celebrating our first anniversary but also about looking ahead to the next chapter and continuing our mission to put Wakefield firmly on the map as a destination for film and television production."
Film Wakefield is the district’s dedicated screen sector initiative, supporting film and television productions to discover, access, and film in Wakefield. By championing the area’s unique locations and creative talent, Film Wakefield helps attract new investment, raise the district’s profile, and create opportunities for local businesses and residents.
Over the past year, the Wakefield district has seen an increase in filming enquiries, demonstrating growing interest in Wakefield as a location for film and television production.
A range of high-profile television and film productions have been filmed in the district, including ‘Faith’, which was supported from pre-production through to wrap, with filming primarily taking place in Normanton. The film was selected for its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival 2026.

Film and television productions can bring benefits to the local economy by creating demand for accommodation, catering, transport, locations, trades and other professional services. This can provide opportunities for local businesses and suppliers to become part of the production supply chain.
