Dino Week returns to WX for half-term fun
Tuesday, May 19, 2026
Dino Week stomps back into Wakefield Exchange (WX) from Saturday 23 May to Sunday 31 May 2026, bringing a week of Jurassic fun to the city throughout the May half term.
Best of all, all activities are free, making it the perfect family friendly destination over the school holidays.
“We know that families are always looking for fun, free things to do during the school holidays so why not come along to WX.
“There’s going to be lots of different dinosaur-themed events and activities to get involved in throughout the week and there really is something for all ages to enjoy.”
Mark Lynam
Corporate Director for Regeneration, Environment and Economic Growth
Throughout the week, visitors of all ages can take part in daily dinosaur themed activities. Younger explorers can dive into the dinosaur sand pit, enjoy colouring and themed play, and zoom around on the miniature jeep safari.
Older adventurers can step into a prehistoric world with a VR experience, Dino Trek, which brings participants face to face with the giant beasts that once roamed the Earth. While aimed at older children, younger visitors can enjoy a playful Dino Rollercoaster VR experience instead.
Alongside these daily activities, Dinosaur Week features a packed programme of special events. On Saturday 23 May, children can take part in a sensory friendly Dino Slime drop in workshop, creating dinosaur themed slime complete with footprints and shapes. The session is suitable for children aged five and over and is SEND friendly.
The Dino Film Club runs across the week, inviting families to enjoy much loved dinosaur and prehistoric classics together. With screenings including The Land Before Time, The Good Dinosaur, The Flintstones and Ice Age.
Families can also get moving at Stretch it Like T Rex – Pilates for Kids on Wednesday 27 May, a fun and playful session designed for children, with accompanying adults encouraged to join in too. The session is free, with advance booking required.
On Thursday 28 May from 6.30pm–8pm, dino fans can put their knowledge to the test at the Roawsome Dino Quiz, a family friendly evening hosted by WX’s resident dinosaur expert. A cuddly dinosaur awaits the winning team.
Dino Week builds to a high energy finish with Dino Disco Day on Friday 29 May, with sessions for Little Dinos (ages 1–5) from 10am–12pm and Big Dinos (ages 5–11) from 2pm–4pm, with mixed ages welcome. The celebrations continue on Saturday 30 May with free face painting, giving children the chance to transform into their favourite dinosaurs.
Dino Week at WX offers a full week of imagination, creativity and prehistoric adventure, making it a must visit destination for families this May half term. Find out more at: Dino Week | Wakefield Exchange
