Council takes next steps to facilitate new homes in Castleford

Wakefield Council has confirmed it has appointed Development Delivery Consultancy (DDC) to help facilitate the planning and future delivery of hundreds of new homes at Stansfield Road and Wheldon Road in Castleford.
“Making sure we have enough homes for people to continue living in the district, close to their families, friends and places of work, is one of my key priorities.
“DDC has the experience and expertise to attract the right developers to the area, helping to deliver high-quality homes that create the kind of communities we want to see across the district.
“As someone with first-hand house building experience, I understand the importance of getting developments right and creating homes that people are proud to live in. I look forward to following the progress on this site and seeing the benefits it will offer to residents in the years ahead.”

Land at Stansfield Road and Wheldon Road was earmarked for new housing in 2012 and is included as a site within the Wakefield District Local Plan - adopted in 2024. The appointment of DDC will now allow the project to move forward, with housing developers able to register their interest in the site.
The schemes will be brought forward separately to the recently announced Strategic Regeneration Project, which concentrates on central Castleford.
Yorkshire based DDC was founded in 2003. They are extremely familiar with Wakefield, working on the City Fields urban extension. The company specialises in bringing forward large residential schemes and helping landowners unlock development opportunities. DDC has delivered successful schemes in Leeds, Doncaster and London.

The next stage is to start the public engagement and master-planning process which will set out the proposed minimum number of new homes for the site. These will be designed following public engagement to suit a range of needs and in different styles and house types.
