Wednesday, October 14, 2026

A spectacular illuminated parade celebrating light, nature and creativity is coming to Wakefield city centre next month.

Residents and visitors are being encouraged to watch the Light Up Wakefield parade on Saturday 14 November starting at 5.30pm at County Hall.

“We can’t wait for this stunning parade to light up our city centre. Residents and visitors can come and watch this wonderful event as part of Light Up Wakefield.

"It’s a great way to start off the festive season, and an opportunity to enjoy some early Christmas shopping and support local businesses.”

Cabinet Member for Culture and Sport

The parade called ‘Nature’s Return’ will be celebrating the revival of wildlife in Wakefield’s rivers, meadows, moors and gardens. Led by a towering Mother Nature figure, glowing creatures emerge from the darkness, transforming the city into a magical celebration of nature’s beauty and power.

Residents and visitors are urged to bring their friends, wrap up warm, and be part of this magical celebration of light, creativity and community spirit.

The parade will travel through Wood Street, finishing on Brook Street and take around 30 minutes. The best place to watch the parade will be on Wood Street.

It is part of Light Up Wakefield that will be taking place from Friday 13 – Saturday 14 November, 5pm-9pm in Wakefield city centre. There will be a light trail across both nights with dazzling installations. The Event Hub will be based at WX Wakefield Exchange where visitors can pick up their free trail map.
