Calling All Cat Lovers: Your Feline Friend Could Star in Our Exhibition!

Friday, January 16, 2026

Wakefield Council is inviting people to take part in a unique celebration of feline charm as part of its upcoming exhibition, The Cat That Slept For A Thousand Years, running from Saturday 21 March to Sunday 12 April at Wakefield Exchange (WX).

They are on the hunt for photos of your cat, whether curled up in a cozy corner, sprawled across the sofa, or in a hilariously awkward position.

“This is a great way to get involved in one of our exhibitions at WX. We’d love to see your feline friends from across the district featured alongside The Cat That Slept for a Thousand Years.

“The display will run alongside a number of different cat themed activities and is sure to be popular with families and cat lovers across the district.”

A selection of these images will feature in the exhibition alongside the spectacular centrepiece: A magical 10-metre-long sleeping cat that snores, purrs, twitches its ear and swishes its tail.

Submit your cat photos by Friday 27 February for a chance to see them displayed at WX.

Entries can be submitted via email to wxcomms@wakefield.gov.uk or via DM to the @WXWakefield Instagram or Facebook

The exhibition, brought to life by Air Giants, blends art, technology, and playfulness to explore themes of care, empathy, and our relationship with the future.

Alongside the giant cat, visitors can enjoy an immersive display telling the story behind the work, plus expect family-friendly, cat-inspired activities.
