Cabinet set to agree £3m fund to support residents

Monday, April 08, 2024

Wakefield Council’s key decision makers are set to accept over £3million of funding to provide financial support to vulnerable households across the district.

At their meeting next week, the Council’s Cabinet will be asked to allocate £3.124m from the Government’s Household Support Fund, to help those most in need pay for essential items such as food, energy and water bills.

Natalie Palmer, Wakefield Council’s Corporate Director for Resources, said: “This funding will allow us to reach many residents on low incomes to provide them with additional financial support. It will provide targeted support to some and importantly, also allow other residents experiencing financial hardship to receive assistance.”

The Council will use the money to provide supermarket vouchers for those most in need, help residents with energy debt and energy bills, and support local welfare provision and the food aid network.

The funding is available for six months between 1 April 2024 and 30 September 2024.
