Additional £2.5m road investment proposed for Wakefield district

Senior councillors are set to give the green light to £2.5m of additional investment to improve roads across the district.
Cabinet members will be asked to agree the funding that will be used for highways maintenance and improvement work in the 2026/27 financial year.
“We understand how vital a good, safe road network is to our communities and we have listened to residents and business owners across our district. That’s why one of our top priorities is improving local roads.
“We promised you action and that’s what we’re doing. By delivering this investment in our network. As well as through our Summer of Action campaign, with more resurfacing and improving road markings to make our roads safer, and we will continue to do so.
“This is about visible improvements not just words. We know it’s just the start of delivering the change you want to see. But this additional funding will help us to do more to improve our roads for everyone who lives and works here.”

The investment is funded through the West Yorkshire Combined Authority (WYCA) from the City Region Sustainable Transport Settlement (CRSTS) uplift.
