30 Days, 30 Ways UK - Be prepared for emergencies
Tuesday, August 25, 2026
Would you know what to do in an emergency?
From severe weather and power cuts, to accidents and illnesses. Emergencies can happen to anyone. At any time. Often when we least expect them.
The devastating fires that have recently affected communities across the country serve as a stark reminder of this. They also highlight the importance of being ready before a crisis occurs.
The national “30 Days, 30 Ways UK” campaign encourages us to think about what type of situations we might face. And what simple steps we can take to prepare for them.
Being prepared can make a significant difference. Having a plan helps to reduce panic and stress, and keeps us safe and well. Especially if emergency and back-up services are under pressure and response times are delayed.
“30 Days, 30 Ways UK” has lots of useful resources and links to get you started. Throughout September, there are daily challenges to help you get prepared, as well as fun activities for children. You can also listen to weekly podcasts, live or on YouTube. These will help you to understand the risks, get informed, make a plan, and protect you and your family – including your pets.
Follow the campaign on social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn. And look out for tips from Wakefield Council on our Facebook.
