£100 seasonal cost of living voucher for pensioners receiving Council Tax Support
Tuesday, March 17, 2026
Wakefield Council is putting extra money back into the pockets of local pensioners this spring. Around 10,000 pensioners will receive a one-off shopping voucher of £100, thanks to the District Investment Fund.
“Through the District Investment Fund, I’m pleased we’re able to put an additional £100 back in the pockets of pensioners struggling the most with the cost of living.
“This funding allows us to help residents directly. It will help towards the cost of their food bills and other essential items.”
Cllr David Pickersgill
Wakefield Council's Cabinet Member for Resources and Property
Pensioners will qualify for the voucher if they are in receipt of Council Tax Support as of 1 April 2026. They will receive a letter from mid-April explaining how to redeem it.
Once the vouchers are redeemed, users will have between 12 and 24 months to spend them at a range of supermarkets.
The £4.3 million District Investment Fund will also support families with school uniforms and childcare, help young people access training and leisure opportunities, and provide more police and enforcement officers for the Wakefield district.
