Apply for a secondary school place

School year beginning September 2027

Apply online at the Parent Portal. It will open on 1 September 2026.

The national closing date for on-time applications is 31 October 2026. Submitting your application on time is important. Last year, people who applied on time were twice as likely to get their preferred school place as people who applied late.

Read the Secondary Guide for Parents It will help you understand the admissions process. All Secondary schools and academies are holding Open Evenings or Open Days in the next few weeks.

If you live in the Wakefield district you must apply to us, even if you are looking at schools in other local authorities. People who live outside the district must apply to their own local authority.

How to apply

1. Click on 'Go to the Parent Portal' below

2. Select 'Admissions' and then click on the 'Login or Register' button.

3. Follow the instructions to help you complete your application.

Keep a record of your password

We cannot see your security details. If you forget your password, use the link on the Parent Portal log in page.

Log back in to the Parent Portal after 12:30am on 1 March 2027 to see your offer of a school place. You will also get an email to confirm your offer. We do not give out any information over the phone.

General Information

We will treat all applications fairly.

We will offer school places by following the relevant published admissions criteria.

Please ensure that the information you enter is correct.

• we will take action if you make a fraudulent application
• someone with legal Parental Responsibility for the child must make the application. They are responsible for the accuracy of the information in the application
• we may withdraw the offer of a school place if you supply false or misleading information 
• we may withdraw the offer of a school place if you do not tell School Admissions about any changes. This includes a change to your child’s address
