Free parking is not available at Merchant Gate this site is controlled by Automatic Number Plate Recognition technology (ANPR).

This car park is also covered by CCTV and has been awarded the Park Mark Safer Parking Award.

Spaces

There are 1217 spaces available for both short and long stay users.

There are marked disabled bays on Levels 1, 4 and 5. 59 in total.

Parking Charges apply to disabled bays as displayed on entry and at the pay stations.

On arrival drive up to one of the Entry lanes and wait until the ANPR cameras record your vehicle registration number and enter when the barrier is raised automatically, no ticket is needed. When you return to the car park at your time of departure, payment can be made by entering your vehicle registration number at one of the Pay Stations.

Should the barrier fail to raise you may be required to obtain a ticket from the barrier which will need to be retained until payment is made at one of the pay stations at your time of departure.

The Black Zone is reserved for Black Zone permit holders only. Parking in bays marked with a black band is prohibited. These bays are located on Levels 4 and 5. 

Pay Stations are available on levels 1 & 2. Payment can also be made when returning to your vehicle via the “Scan to Pay” app to avoid queuing at a machine.

Parking Charges

  • 90p per hour, to a maximum of 5 hours (full daily rate after 5 hours)
  • Monday to Friday - £11.50 per day (up to 24 hours and part days thereafter)
  • Saturday and Sunday - £6.75 per day (each day up to 4:29am)
  • weekly (seven consecutive days) £46
  • long weekend (6am Friday to 11:59pm Monday only) £17

The long weekend rate is only available for vehicles entering from 6am Friday and exiting before 11:59pm Monday. 

The hourly rate only applies for short stay use up to a maximum of 5 hours. Any stay greater than 5 hours will be chargeable at the daily rate. 

Payment can be made by cash, debit/credit card at the pay machine or by using ‘Scan to Pay’ - signage displayed throughout the car park.

There is currently no provision for the charging of Electric Vehicles at Merchant Gate.

Parking is prohibited on the access road leading to the car park.

Should you need any support or advice while in the car park or at the time of departure, all Pay Stations and Barriers are linked to the car park contact centre by Intercom for assistance.

Wakefield Council do not offer permits for long term users.
