New library management system

Coming soon – we’re making it even easier to access your local library. Our new look library catalogue and app launches 9th July 2026. Find out more: New library management system

Our new library management system goes live on 9 July 2026. This change shouldn’t affect your experience of using the library. You will still be able to borrow, return, and renew books, audiobooks, eBooks and eAudiobooks as you would before.

If you need a hand with anything or run into any issues, please get in touch by emailing lib.admin@wakefield.gov.uk

Our new library app

We’re also launching our brand new Spydus Library app. Here you can access your library card, manage the books you have on loan and browse our library catalogue.

The app also includes some great new features, like:

  • reading lists
  • new book arrivals
  • personalised recommendations

To download it, search for Spydus Library app in your mobile app store and log in using your Wakefield Libraries card number and PIN.

Logging into your library account

Visit the library online at https://libraries.wakefield.gov.uk/ and go to "Log In". You will need to enter your library card number or email address and password or PIN. If you are logging in for the first time, you may need to go to "Forgot Password" to set up your account.

Using your existing library card

You can use your existing library card and PIN to log in to your app and online account.

Borrowing history changes

As this is a new system, your borrowing history won’t carry over. We’re sorry for any issues this may cause.

Joining the library

Joining the library is free and doesn't need an ID. You can visit one of our libraries and chat to staff in person or sign up online at https://libraries.wakefield.gov.uk/. Then you can go to a library to collect your card and PIN number to access all our services.

Searching for a book or resource

Use the search bar on the app or online catalogue to look up titles, authors, or topics. You can filter your results by format (e.g., eBook, audiobook, large print), publication year, or branch.

Renewing items

Go to the "Current Loans" page, select your items and choose "Renew". You will need to return items reserved by another customer or which have reached their renewal limit. Wakefield Libraries doesn't charge fines for overdue library books, and it's okay if they are a bit late. You can return books to any library in Wakefield district.

Placing reservations

When you find a title you want, click on it and select the "Place Hold" or "Reserve" button. We will ask you to select your preferred pickup location. You will receive an email or text message when the item is ready to collect from your chosen branch.

Home library service customers

There will be no changes to this service. You can call us and ask about your home deliveries on 01924 302241.

Accessing eBooks, audiobooks and magazines

We have Libby, Borrowbox and ULibrary for eBooks and eAudiobooks. ComicsPlus is available for graphic novels and comics. You can also access the newspaper and magazine app PressReader. You can borrow and read these in your web browser or reading apps from your app store. To log in for the first time, select ‘Wakefield Libraries’ and use your library card number and PIN.

Online databases and research tools

These are accessible on our website. Visit our library resources
