Home Energy Bill Support

Warm Home Discount Scheme

The Warm Home Discount Scheme is a one-off £150 discount off your electricity bill.

If you’re eligible, your electricity supplier will apply the discount to your bill. The money is not paid to you.

You’ll usually get the discount automatically if you’re eligible.

You qualify if you either:

  • get the Guarantee Credit element of Pension Credit
  • are on a low income

You can still qualify for the discount if you use a pre-pay or pay-as-you-go electricity meter.

Your electricity supplier can tell you how you’ll get the discount if you’re eligible, for example a voucher you can use to top up your meter.

More information is available on the GOV.UK website.

Cold Weather Payment

You may get Cold Weather Payments if you’re getting:

  • Pension Credit
  • income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
  • Universal Credit
  • support for mortgage interest

If you’re eligible, you’ll get these payments automatically. You do not need to apply, but you may need to report a change in circumstances if you have a baby or if a child under 5 comes to live with you.

You’ll get a payment if the average temperature in your area is recorded as, or forecast to be, zero degrees celsius or below over 7 consecutive days.

More information is available on the GOV.UK website.

Winter Fuel Payment

If you were born before 28 June 1960 you could get between £100 and £300 to help you pay your heating bills for winter 2026 to 2027. This is known as a ‘Winter Fuel Payment’.

Most people get the Winter Fuel Payment automatically if they’re eligible.

If you’re eligible, you’ll receive a letter in October or November saying how much you’ll get.

Most eligible people will be paid in the following November or December.
