Wedding Ceremonies at Pontefract Town Hall

The lift at Pontefract Town Hall is currently out of order. Please bear this in mind when making a ceremony booking for the Nelson Room. 

Pontefract Town Hall offers a stunning and breath taking venue for those who seek a dignified and practical setting for a unique wedding or celebration.  There are a collection of rooms available for use.

The Nelson Room

Located on the first floor of the Town Hall,  renamed the Nelson Room in 1855, when the original plaster cast model of Nelson’s death scene was donated to the Town by its then MP Benjamin Oliveria.

The plaster model was sculptured by I E Carew and used to mould bronze castings for Nelsons Column in London.

The room will seat up to 60 guests for your ceremony.

The Hartley Suite

Located in the former Mayor's Parlour on the ground floor of the Town Hall. Before your ceremony guests will assemble in our waiting room which is furnished with chandeliers, beautifully restored furniture and a grandfather clock created by William Sheppard, who had a shop on Micklegate in 1822.

The room will seat up to 15 guests for your ceremony.

Additional information in respect of the Hartley Suite and the Nelson Room

  • If you require the use of a translator, they will sign the schedule as a witness to the marriage. They cannot attend as an additional guest to the numbers outlined
  • Children over 5 are included in the maximum number of guests.  Where children attend ceremonies, parents are responsible for ensuring they are supervised at all times

Pontefract Registration Office

Your marriage or civil partnership will take place in a room identified as the Registration Office. You will be provided with choices of legal vows and ring vows however, there will be no readings, music or other personalised elements included in the ceremony.

Please note that attendance is restricted to the couple and two witnesses only. Children of any age or photographers cannot attend additionally.

When you decide where, when and at what time you want to be married it is essential that you provisionally book a registrar. You will need to pay a non-refundable booking fee.
