Apply to be a co-opted or independent member of a council committee

We are looking for volunteers to serve as:

  • co-opted members on our overview and scrutiny committees
  • independent member on our audit and governance committee

To fulfil these interesting roles you need to be aged 18 or over and able to attend daytime meetings. To serve on an overview and scrutiny committee you also need to live or work in the Wakefield District. In return you will gain a unique insight into local democracy. You will also have the opportunity to work with councillors.

Wakefield Council employees are not eligible to serve on any of these committees.

Overview and scrutiny committees review and make recommendations to improve local services. They can make recommendations for improvements to the council and partner organisations.

The Audit and Governance Committee provides independent oversight of:

  • the adequacy of the council’s risk management framework
  • the internal control environment
  • the integrity of financial reporting and annual governance processes

The term of office is until May 2027.
