Introducing the Deputy Mayor

Councillor Penny Ashton has lived in Havercroft for more than 15 years and currently serves as a parish councillor for Havercroft with Cold Hiendley, a role in which she enjoys getting involved in lots of different community activities

This is reflected in her position as a school governor at Newstead Green, and as a volunteer welfare officer for Ryhill Football Club.

Cllr Ashton is also a proud mum of two and granny to three.

Penny’s great granddad, John William Smith, was the last paid Mayor of Wakefield back in 1924. And she is extremely honoured to be following in his footsteps.

With her experience and passion for getting involved in the local community, Penny will do a brilliant job in supporting Cllr Moorhouse to represent the Wakefield district over the next year.
