Roadworks, closures, and highway licensing

All utility companies must prioritise works across the Wakefield District highway network. The Streetworks Team monitor, and co-ordinate works on the public highway whilst working closely with utility companies, contactors, bus companies and others with interests of the local road network to limit disruption as much as possible as well as looking for opportunities to improve the area.

We operate a permit scheme used to control street works and works for road purposes on the highway network. These include work on apparatus installed in the street, maintenance of existing assets and improvement works to the road surfaces.

Our scheme improves the road network through better planning and management of activities. It reduces disruption to anyone using the road or pavement.

Other types of activity on the highway, such as builders' skips and scaffolding are not included in this scheme and need separate licences or permits outlined below.

The following map shows live street work data in the district. This map is streamed live from one.network.
