Electorate statistics

Each year, the Electoral Registration Officer publishes the revised register of electors. They also publish a booklet of statistics known as the electorate analysis.

The 2024 register of electors was published on 15 January 2024.

A copy of the electorate analysis is available from the Electoral Services Office.

Local Government Act 2000

The Local Authorities (Referendums) (Petitions) (England) Regulations 2011

Electors can petition the council to hold a referendum on whether a local authority should change to a different form of governance. A petition must be signed by at least 5 per cent of the local government electors for the district.

For Wakefield, 5 per cent is 13,117 local government electors, as of February 2024.

This figure will have effect for petitions presented from 1 April 2024 to 31 March 2025.
