Introducing the Mayor and Mayoress

Councillor Josie Pritchard and Councillor Melanie Jones

Josie was elected in May 2021 and represents the Altofts and Whitwood Ward.

Josie is dedicated to promoting children's welfare and mental health services. She actively supports various committees related to the following causes:

  • Adults Services
  • Public Health
  • The NHS
  • Children and Young People
  • Corporate Parenting

Josie has been a Normanton Town Councillor for many years and has had the privilege of serving the people of the town in the role of Mayor of Normanton. During this time, she raised over £13,000 for The Well Project and the Charity Transforming Lives for Good.

Josie lives in Normanton with her husband Mark and their family. In her spare time, she enjoys cooking and spending quality time with her loved ones.

Josie will be supported during her Mayoral term by her good friend Councillor Melanie Jones.

Melanie is a District Councillor representing Hemsworth Ward since May 2022. Her background is a qualified nurse, specialising in occupational health and safety and more recently working in communication for UK Parliament.

Melanie has been serving as a District Councillor for Hemsworth Ward since May 2022. She has a background as a qualified nurse specialising in occupational health and safety. Melanie has also gained experience in communication for the UK Parliament.

She devotes much of her time to supporting her Ward residents and in her voluntary role as Chair of Carers Wakefield and championing equal rights for all. Her hobbies include medieval and cultural history and environmental and animal welfare.

Josie and Melanie are looking forward to supporting the people of the Wakefield District in this very special way.
