Supporting our residents with energy debt
Friday, May 10, 2024
We’re extending a scheme to help vulnerable residents across our district in fuel poverty.
The Energy Debt Fund scheme provides grants to help vulnerable and low-income households with problem energy debt.
The scheme has been running for the last three years and has supported over 330 households with their energy bills.
“This vital funding helps our most vulnerable residents, struggling with the cost-of-living crisis and rising energy bills. It has already provided vital support, enabling households to turn on their heating to be warm and healthy in their homes and reduce the risk of fuel poverty.
“I would urge anyone who is struggling with energy debt to get in touch and see how we can help.”
Cllr Michael Graham
Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Economic Growth

Applicants will be invited to discuss their needs with our Money Smart Team and if successful, a grant is paid directly to your energy suppliers. Only one Energy Debt Fund grant is available per household.
Limited funding is available, and it is allocated on a first-come-first-served basis. The Household Support Funding for this scheme will be available until the end of September 2024 only.
Applications to apply for the Energy Debt Fund are now open. Contact the Money Smart Team for an assessment via this online referral form: Money Smart Referral Form - Wakefield Council
