Story trails

Story Trails are a way to inspire families to go out walking and enjoy reading stories together, and to help build children’s interest in reading while encouraging a healthy outdoor activity for both children and their grown-ups.

Story trails are a fun, educational activity that use words, images and sculptures from some of your children’s favourite books. Story trails combine the pleasures and wonder of children’s books with the benefits of walking as a family in the great outdoors!

Blown Away

Pugneys Country Park is ready to blow you away, with our fantastic new book and story trail around the lake.

The Health Improvement Team have been working closely with a local author and illustrator, to bring the park to life, and who better to lead the way than the mischievous wind!  Prepare to be Blown Away!

Blown Away is written with the mischievous wind being the main character, entertaining himself and causing upset to a few of the locals, from blowing Grandads underpants into the mud, to sending the boy flying with his kite. However, after the locals tell him to leave, they soon realise they all need each other….

Come and read the book, then see where your journey will take you. You can go look out for grandmas washing, and help the boy find his kite.

Starting with a selfie in grandma’s car, take your journey on our new path to where the wind likes to play, using musical instruments to see if you can make your own thunderstorm to flying like the boy’s kite on the zip line.

Have a play around on our boat, and spot Sandal Castle in the binoculars. When you have finished you can continue your adventures and find some more of Pugneys friends in the nature reserve.

The Blown Away book is available to purchase at Pugneys Country Park.
