CAF is used to assess children and their families to establish a family plan at the earliest opportunity.
The purpose of this plan is to help to provide children and young people and their families with the most appropriate services to safeguard and to promote wellbeing. The framework supports the identification of a ‘lead practitioner’ to act as a main point of contact for the family and the development of the family plan.
Practitioners from Universal Services can access support to use the Common Assessment Framework through the four Children First Hubs.

Wakefield Children and Young People Partnership has now adopted the Signs of Safety as a tool kit for working with children.
