Computers, internet access and Wi-Fi

All our libraries have free Wi-Fi.

All our libraries provide customers with two free hours of access to library computers. 

Our computers have free internet access and each computer has the following software programmes installed as standard:

  • Microsoft Office Packages:
    • Publisher
    • Word (word processing)
    • Excel (spreadsheets)
    • Picture manager
    • PowerPoint
    • Access (databases)
  • Accessories including; calculator, paint and magnifier
  • Internet explorer
  • Adobe reader
  • Windows media player
  • Windows photo viewer

Careers and learning

If you are looking to return to work or learn new skills, we have a team of people who can offer free help with preparing a CV or signposting you to the correct website for a course or job.

The team offer a basic service to get you started on the right path for your new job, they offer:

  • Free, confidential and impartial advice
  • Signposting for adults on jobs, learning and training opportunities
  • Help to find the right website for your course or information for your specific needs
  • Help with CVs and application forms
  • Access to job search databases

This is an appointments only service; please get in touch with your local Library to book.

Many of our libraries also offer free regular drop-in job clubs where you can get assistance searching for jobs, creating a CV or help completing an application form - please see our events and activities page for details of where and when these take place.

Online basics - free computer courses

We offer FREE computer courses at libraries throughout the district.

The online basics course is a great way for you to get started online, helping you to gain the skills and confidence you need to start using computers and the internet.

Whether you’re looking to search for a new job online or simply save time, money and hassle by using the internet to order your weekly shopping or pay your bills -Online basics can help you get the skills you need.
