Cold weather improves the risk of flu, which can seriously affect the health of children, and of vulnerable people, particularly those aged over-65, or who have long-term medical conditions. To help prevent the spread of flu, the following groups are urged to take advantage of the free flu immunisation.
Speak to your GP or local pharmacy for more details.
Those eligible are:
everyone aged 65 and over
everyone under 65 with a medical condition, listed below, including babies
and children over six months of age
all pregnant women, at any stage of pregnancy
all primary school children in reception class and years 1 to 5
all children aged 2 and 3 years old
everyone living in a residential or nursing home
everyone who cares for an older or disabled person
those seriously overweight (BMI of 40 and above)
Please note: the children’s vaccine is a nasal spray, making it easier and painless.
