Hiring event space

Wakefield Council is accepting applications for hiring its City Centre spaces.

Due to the on-going government recommendations for public safety we are currently unable to approve applications for the hosting of events, performances or plays within our spaces but we will be considering applications for information distribution, charity activities, commercial or promotional campaigns.

All applications must provide documentation outlining how they propose to adhere with all ongoing Government guidance and requirements around COVID 19 and manage the safety of the public and your own staff and/or volunteers.

We manage a number of event spaces in Wakefield city centre. These spaces are available to hire for the purpose of company and commercial promotion, event promotion and information exchange.

Applications for consent must be made no later than eight weeks before the date of the event and you must supply the following additional documents with your application:

  • A risk assessment covering the entire event/activity
  • Relevant documentation indemnifying the Council to a minimum value of £5million 
  • Images of display materials and any leaflets you intend to use at your event

If you are successful in obtaining an event consent you may hand out promotional leaflets within the confines of the allotted space. Otherwise, it is an offence to distribute free printed matter (leaflets, flyers etc.) within Wakefield city centre without consent. Offenders could face a fine of up to £2,500. If you wish to hold a street collection then approval must be sought from our Licensing Service. A separate form for this purpose is available on our Charitable collections page. We will need to determine if you are fit and proper to conduct such an activity.
