Sandal Castle is open and ready to welcome visitors, despite some areas being closed to the public.
The bridge to the Bailey and the steps to the Keep are currently closed to the public due to safety concerns.
However, councillors have approved plans for more than £700,000 to be invested in repairs and conservation of the monument. Work to repair the bridges, walkways and steps is taking place now and our aim is to re-open them to visitors in March. Work will be carried out to the monument in spring 2019.
Meanwhile, we apologise for any inconvenience caused by some parts of the Castle being closed.
Further updates will appear here and our
Page on Facebook.
The site is open to the public all year round and parking is free. Visitors can walk around the site and see superb views of the Calder Valley.
The former visitor centre has been converted into the Castle Café, which has proved very popular with visitors due to its fantastic view of the castle. The café opens daily from 9am to 4pm and cooks food fresh on site.
Picnickers and dog walkers are welcome. Please help to support the Castle by taking home any litter and clearing up after your dog.
