The romantic ruins of this medieval castle stand in a commanding position overlooking the Yorkshire countryside. The castle is famous for the Battle of Wakefield fought nearby in 1460.
Sandal Castle site is open to the public all year round and parking is free. Visitors can walk around the site and see superb views of the Calder Valley.
The former visitor centre has been converted into the Castle Café, an independent family run café which has proved very popular with visitors due to its fantastic view of the castle.
The castle is currently undergoing conservation work and improvements to the interpretation on site.
